1. UTIITSL vs Protean (NSDL) Specifications
Unlike popular belief, UTIITSL and Protean (formerly NSDL) have different specifications for photo and signature. Choose your provider carefully:
| Requirement | UTIITSL | Protean (NSDL) |
|---|---|---|
| Photo Dimensions | 213 × 213 px (Square) | 3.5 × 2.5 cm (197 × 276 px) |
| Photo DPI | 300 DPI | 200 DPI |
| Photo Size Limit | Under 30 KB | Under 50 KB |
| Signature Dimensions | 400 × 200 px (Rectangle) | 4.5 × 2 cm (354 × 157 px) |
| Signature DPI | 600 DPI | 200 DPI |
| Signature Size Limit | Under 60 KB | Under 50 KB |
2. Why Aspect Ratio Matters (No Stretching)
Most online tools simply stretch the image to fit the required box, which makes the face look fat or thin. This is a major reason for rejection. Our tool uses smart logic:
- For Photos (Cover mode): It zooms in slightly and crops the edges to fill the box without stretching your face.
- For Signatures (Contain mode): It fits the entire signature inside the box with a white background, ensuring no part of your signature is cut off.
3. How to Use This Tool
- Select your provider: Click UTIITSL or Protean at the top. The boxes will auto-fill with the correct values.
- Upload photo: Choose your file. The tool will automatically output the exact pixels, DPI, and size limit.
- Upload signature: Choose your scanned signature file.
- Download: Click the green download buttons and upload these files to the official government portal.
4. Frequently Asked Questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Everything happens 100% locally in your browser. Your sensitive documents never leave your device.
Why does Protean need 200 DPI while UTI needs 300 DPI?
Both portals use different software for verification. UTI prints at a higher resolution, hence requires 300 DPI for photos and 600 DPI for signatures. Protean uses a standard 200 DPI for both.
What if I don't know which portal I am using?
If you are applying through UTIITSL (utiitsl.com), use the UTI settings. If you are on the Protean portal (onlineservices.protean-tinpan.com), use the Protean settings.
