How to Use the Random Name Picker
Our spinning wheel is very easy to use and provides a completely fair way to make a choice. Here is the step-by-step guide:
Step 1: Enter Your Names
Type or paste your list into the text box on the left. Make sure to put each name on a new line. You can add up to 100 names. If you leave it blank, we will use the default names (Alice, Bob, etc.).
Step 2: Click "Spin the Wheel"
Once your list is ready, click the big yellow button. The wheel will start spinning rapidly. It will slowly lose speed and eventually stop on a random slice.
Step 3: See the Winner
When the wheel stops, the winning name will pop up on the screen in large text. If you want to pick another winner, just click the spin button again!
Why Use a Spinner Wheel?
Making decisions can be hard, and sometimes, people argue over who gets to go first or who wins a prize. A random name picker removes human bias and makes the process fair and exciting.
1. YouTube and Instagram Giveaways
If you are a content creator running a giveaway, you need a transparent way to pick a winner. Using a spinning wheel on a screen recording proves to your audience that the winner was chosen fairly, without any favoritism.
2. Classroom Activities
Teachers love this tool. Instead of picking the same eager students every time, teachers can add the names of the whole class and spin the wheel. It keeps students engaged and ensures everyone gets a fair chance to answer.
3. Office and Team Meetings
Who has to take notes in the meeting? Who gets to present first? Instead of awkward silence, just spin the wheel. It's a quick, fun way to assign tasks without any complaints.
4. Deciding What to Eat
Can't decide between Pizza, Burgers, or Sushi? Add your options to the wheel and let fate decide. This is a very popular use case for couples and families.
How Does the Math Work?
Some people worry that the wheel is rigged. It is not! Here is how it works behind the scenes:
- When you click spin, the code uses a built-in JavaScript function called
Math.random()(or a secure random generator) to pick a random number. - This number determines the final rotation angle of the wheel.
- Because the number is purely random, every slice on the wheel has a perfectly equal chance of being selected.
If you have 10 names on the wheel, each name has exactly a 10% chance of winning. It is mathematically fair.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is this random name picker truly random?
Yes, it uses JavaScript's random number generation to ensure a completely fair and unbiased result every time. There is no hidden algorithm favoring any specific name.
How many names can I add?
You can add up to 100 names. The wheel will automatically adjust the size of the slices to fit all the names on the screen.
Can I use this for a YouTube giveaway?
Absolutely! It is very popular for giveaways, raffles, and contests because everyone can see the wheel spin live on screen. It proves the draw was fair.
Does the wheel save my list?
No, we respect your privacy. If you refresh or close the page, the list is cleared. We do not store your names on any server.
What happens if I enter only one name?
If there is only one name, the wheel will spin and will obviously land on that single name. It's a funny way to guarantee someone wins!
