How to Use the Working Days Calculator
This tool is designed to help professionals and students calculate time accurately. Here is how to use it:
Step 1: Enter Your Dates
Select your starting date and ending date in the boxes provided. The tool will calculate the total number of calendar days between these dates.
Step 2: Remove Weekends Automatically
By default, the calculator will subtract all Saturdays and Sundays from the total. It only counts Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. This gives you the pure "business days."
Step 3: Add Custom Holidays (Optional)
Weekends aren't the only days you don't work. If a public holiday (like Independence Day or Diwali) falls on a weekday, it is not a working day. In the "Add Public Holidays" box, type the dates of the holidays. The tool will subtract these days as well.
Step 4: Read Your Results
You will see the exact number of working days in the blue box. Below it, you can see the breakdown: total calendar days, how many weekend days were skipped, and how many holidays were removed.
Why Do You Need a Working Days Calculator?
Counting days by hand is easy, but counting *working* days is hard. Different months have different numbers of days, and there are weekends and holidays. Here is why this tool is essential:
1. Project Management
When planning a project, deadlines are rarely set in "calendar days." If a client says, "You have 45 days to finish this website," they usually mean 45 *working* days. Knowing exactly when the 45th business day falls is crucial for delivering on time.
2. Corporate Notice Periods
If you resign from a job, your notice period is often 30, 60, or 90 days. But HR departments usually calculate your last working day based on business days, not calendar days. You need to know exactly how many days of actual work you have left.
3. Banking and Financial Services
Banks operate on business days. If a cheque is cleared in "3 working days," and you deposit it on a Friday, it will not clear on Monday. It will clear by Wednesday (skipping the weekend). Knowing this helps you manage your finances.
4. Event Planning
If you are planning a conference or a wedding, vendors often require advance booking in working days. If your caterer says "We need 15 business days' notice," you need this calculator to know exactly when to call them.
Is Your Data Safe?
Yes, 100%. The calculation happens entirely in your web browser. We do not know your start date, end date, or which holidays you entered. Your data is completely private.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How does the working days calculator work?
It counts every day between your start and end dates but automatically skips Saturdays and Sundays. If you manually add dates to the "Holidays" box, it will skip those as well.
Does the calculator include the start and end date?
The calculator counts the days *between* the two dates. For example, if you select January 1 to January 5, that is 4 days. However, for working days, it adjusts based on the days of the week.
Are Saturdays and Sundays always the weekend?
In most Western countries and India, yes. However, in some Middle Eastern countries, the weekend is Friday and Saturday. Our tool currently assumes Saturday and Sunday are the weekends.
How do I calculate my notice period end date?
This tool tells you how many working days are in a period. If you want to find out what the exact date is after 60 working days, you can use our Date Calculator.
