eMitra & CSC Tools — Frequently Asked Questions
Everything about DocEasy's tools for eMitra, CSC, Jan Seva Kendra, and cyber café operators.
What are DocEasy eMitra & CSC Tools?
DocEasy's eMitra & CSC Tools are a specialized collection of free, browser-based utilities designed for digital service center operators across India — including eMitra (Rajasthan), CSC (Common Service Centers under MeitY), Jan Seva Kendra, e-District portals, and cyber cafés. These tools automate the most tedious tasks: cropping ID cards to exact 8.5 × 5.5 cm size, resizing photos for online applications, compressing PDFs for portal uploads, scanning documents via phone camera, and printing KYC-ready copies on A4. Every tool runs entirely in your browser — no uploads, no signup, no subscription fees. This protects both operator efficiency and customer data privacy, which is critical when handling Aadhaar, PAN, and other sensitive identity documents.
Are these tools really free for commercial use?
Yes — every tool is 100% free, forever, with no restrictions on commercial use. eMitra, CSC, Jan Seva Kendra, and cyber café operators can use DocEasy's tools for their daily business without paying anything. There's no signup, no email, no license fee, no per-transaction charge, and no premium tier. You can process 10 customer documents or 10,000 — all free. The site is supported by lightweight display ads. Most commercial KYC software charges ₹500–5,000 per month per operator — DocEasy is completely free and privacy-first. This is especially important for small operators in rural areas who can't afford expensive software but need reliable tools to serve their customers.
Is my customer's Aadhaar, PAN, or ID data safe?
Completely safe — this is one of the most important aspects of DocEasy's design. Every tool runs entirely client-side in your browser — no customer data is ever uploaded to any server. When you drop a customer's Aadhaar PDF or PAN scan, it's read into your browser's memory using the FileReader API. All processing (cropping, resizing, merging) happens locally using Canvas. The result is written back to your device. Nothing is transmitted, logged, or stored anywhere. This is critical for compliance: the Aadhaar Act, 2016, and the DPDP Act, 2023 impose strict penalties for unauthorized storage or transmission of Aadhaar data. By using DocEasy, you eliminate that risk entirely — the data never leaves your device. You can verify this yourself: open Developer Tools (F12), go to the Network tab, drop a customer's Aadhaar PDF, and process it. You'll see zero outgoing requests carrying their data.
How do I crop a customer's Aadhaar card to the correct size?
Use the ID Card Dual-Side Cropper tool — it's designed specifically for this. Steps: (1) Open the tool and drop your customer's Aadhaar PDF or scanned image. (2) If the PDF is password-protected (common for e-Aadhaar downloads), enter the password. The common format is the first 4 letters of the name in CAPITALS + birth year (e.g., "DEEP1998" for Deepak born in 1998). (3) Two crop boxes appear — a green one for the front and a blue one for the back. Position each box over the corresponding side of the card. (4) The default size is 8.5 × 5.5 cm (CR80 standard, same as a credit card). This is what banks and KYC portals require. (5) Click "Print Ultra HD" to print both sides side-by-side on A4 at 300 DPI. Or click "Save HD Images" to download the front and back as separate PNG files. Both sides print at exactly 8.5 × 5.5 cm — no measuring, no manual scaling, no errors.
What is the correct Aadhaar card size for printing?
The standard Aadhaar card follows the international CR80 standard — 8.5 × 5.5 cm (85.6 × 54 mm), the same size as a credit card. This is the size required by banks, SIM card vendors, and KYC verification portals. Some portals (like UTIITSL for PAN card KYC) ask for slightly different sizes — 8.6 × 5.4 cm for KYC submission. The ID Card Cropper allows you to adjust the dimensions in the toolbar if needed. Always print at 100% scale — never "fit to page" or "shrink to fit", which automatically resizes to fit margins and produces incorrect card sizes. After printing, measure with a ruler to verify exact 8.5 × 5.5 cm before submitting to the customer. Common mistake: operators use "fit to page" and print cards that look correct but are 5–10% smaller — leading to KYC rejections. DocEasy defaults to the correct size and disables auto-scaling in print output.
How do I resize photos for online application forms?
Most government portals (SSC, UPSC, NEET, JEE, IBPS, RRB, state PSCs) have specific photo size requirements: typically 200 × 230 pixels at 20–50 KB in JPG format for signatures, and 4 × 3 cm at 20–100 KB for photos. The Photo Size Resize tool lets you: (1) Upload the customer's photo; (2) Select the exact dimensions required (or type custom values); (3) Set the target file size in KB (e.g., "Max 50 KB"); (4) The tool automatically crops, resizes, and re-compresses the JPEG to hit your target; (5) Download the result — ready to upload. This eliminates the trial-and-error of manually resizing in MS Paint or Photoshop, where operators often struggle to hit exact file size limits. DocEasy handles all the math in seconds. The tool supports multiple presets for common exams plus custom dimensions.
Can I scan paper documents using my phone?
Yes — the Document Scanner tool turns your phone into a portable scanner. Steps: (1) Open the tool on your phone; (2) Take a photo of the document (Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, Ration Card, etc.) using your phone's camera; (3) The tool auto-detects the document edges and straightens the perspective (perspective correction); (4) It enhances contrast, removes shadows, and produces a clean black-and-white or grayscale scan; (5) Save as PDF or JPG. This is far faster than using a flatbed scanner — especially useful for eMitra operators who process dozens of documents daily. The scan quality is comparable to a desktop scanner at 300 DPI. For best results: place the document on a flat, matte surface (not glass), use natural daylight rather than flash, and hold the phone directly above the document (not at an angle).
How do I merge multiple customer documents into one PDF?
Use the Merge PDF tool. Steps: (1) Open the tool; (2) Drop 2 or more PDF files (e.g., Aadhaar front PDF + Aadhaar back PDF + PAN PDF + bank statement PDF); (3) Drag to reorder them if needed; (4) Click "Merge" — the tool combines them into one PDF in seconds; (5) Download the merged PDF. This is useful when portals require a single file upload combining multiple documents (common for loan applications, KYC submissions, scholarship applications, exam registrations). The merge happens entirely in your browser using PDF-lib — no server round-trip, no waiting. You can merge 2 files or 50 files in one go. File order is preserved exactly as you arrange them.
Can I compress files to meet portal upload limits?
Yes — this is one of the most common tasks in service centers. Most government portals have strict upload limits: 50 KB, 100 KB, 200 KB, or 500 KB depending on the document. The Compress PDF tool reduces PDF file size by 60–90% using image downsampling and re-encoding. The Image Compressor tool reduces JPG/PNG file size by 50–90% using adjustable quality. For example: a 2 MB Aadhaar PDF can be compressed to 150 KB without visible quality loss. A 5 MB photo can be compressed to 80 KB. Steps: (1) Open the appropriate tool; (2) Drop the file; (3) Select the compression preset or set a target size (e.g., "Target: 100 KB"); (4) The tool compresses and previews the result; (5) Download. All processing is local — no waiting for server queues, no file size limits on upload.
Does the tool work offline in areas with poor internet?
Yes — this is a critical advantage for rural service centers. After the page loads once, all tools work fully offline. Since all processing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript and Canvas APIs, no internet connection is needed once the page is loaded. You can disconnect Wi-Fi and continue cropping Aadhaar cards, resizing photos, merging PDFs, or scanning documents. This is particularly important for eMitra, CSC, and Jan Seva Kendra operators in areas with unreliable connectivity. The only exception is the very first page load — after that, everything works offline until you refresh. Files processed offline can be saved and submitted later when connectivity is available.
Which browsers are supported?
All modern browsers: Chrome 90+, Edge 90+, Firefox 88+, Safari 14+, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, and all Chromium browsers. Chrome and Edge offer the smoothest experience, especially for PDF processing (using PDF.js) and image manipulation (using Canvas API). On Windows desktops running Windows 7, 8, or 10, use the latest Chrome or Edge. On older machines, Firefox also works well. Mobile browsers (Chrome on Android, Safari on iOS) work perfectly for all tools including the Document Scanner. If you see "PDF failed to load" errors on an old browser, update to the latest version — the tools rely on modern JavaScript features like async/await and the File API.
Do these tools work on Windows 7 computers?
Yes — DocEasy's tools work on Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11, as long as you use a modern browser. Windows 7 is officially out of support by Microsoft (since 2020), but Chrome, Firefox, and Edge still work on it with limitations. For the best experience on Windows 7: (1) Use the latest Firefox ESR (Extended Support Release) which still supports Windows 7; (2) Or use a portable browser like Chrome Portable from a USB drive; (3) For PDF processing, use Firefox — it has good PDF.js support; (4) Avoid Internet Explorer. Many eMitra and CSC operators still run Windows 7 machines because the eMitra client software only runs on Win7. DocEasy's tools are designed to work on these legacy systems without issues.
Can I use these tools on multiple computers?
Yes — every tool is browser-based, so there's nothing to install. Just open the URL on any computer, and all tools are instantly available. You can use them on your shop desktop, backup laptop, tablet, or phone — same tools, same experience, no syncing needed. This is useful when you want to keep your main shop computer for eMitra software and use a second computer (or tablet) for DocEasy processing. Since nothing is stored on the device (all processing is in-memory), there's no login, no account, and no trace left behind. Every session starts fresh.
How is this different from using MS Word or Photoshop?
MS Word and Photoshop can technically produce print-ready ID cards, but they require manual setup: page size, margins, image resolution, print scaling. What would take 10 minutes in Word (and often print at the wrong size) takes 30 seconds in DocEasy with guaranteed correct output. Photoshop is even more complex and requires subscription (₹1,600+/month). DocEasy is purpose-built for KYC workflows: correct CR80 dimensions are pre-set, DPI is automatically 300, page layout is A4 by default, and print scaling is fixed at 100%. This eliminates errors that lead to KYC rejections. For high-volume commercial operations, DocEasy is dramatically faster and safer than generic desktop software. And it's completely free.
Can I print a physical Aadhaar card for a customer?
Yes — many service centers offer this as a paid service. Steps: (1) Get the customer's Aadhaar number; (2) Download the e-Aadhaar PDF from uidai.gov.in (or ask the customer to share their e-Aadhaar PDF); (3) Open the ID Card Cropper tool; (4) Upload the e-Aadhaar PDF and enter the password if protected; (5) Position the crop boxes over front and back; (6) Print on A4 at 100% scale; (7) Cut along the guides; (8) Optional: Laminate for durability (₹10–20 extra). Customers often need a physical Aadhaar copy for bank KYC, SIM card purchase, or school admission. The service typically costs ₹20–50 per print. Make sure to print the mandatory Aadhaar usage guidelines (mentioned on the e-Aadhaar PDF) alongside — this is a regulatory requirement under the Aadhaar Act.
Are these tools compliant with Aadhaar Act and DPDP Act?
DocEasy's tools are designed with compliance in mind. Under the Aadhaar Act, 2016, and the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023, unauthorized storage, sharing, or transmission of Aadhaar data carries significant penalties. DocEasy eliminates all these risks because nothing is stored, shared, or transmitted. All processing happens in the operator's browser — Aadhaar data never leaves the device. This makes DocEasy the safest possible choice for KYC processing. However, operators must still follow the rules: (1) Never store customer Aadhaar copies beyond what's necessary; (2) Print only with the customer's explicit consent; (3) Never share Aadhaar data over WhatsApp or email without encryption; (4) Delete temporary files immediately after use. DocEasy helps you comply, but compliance is ultimately your responsibility as the operator.
Which services can I offer with these tools?
DocEasy's tools support a wide range of digital services: KYC Services — Aadhaar card printing, PAN card printing, KYC document preparation for banks, telecom, and government. Form Filling — Photo/signature resizing for online applications (SSC, UPSC, NEET, JEE, IBPS, RRB, state PSCs, college admissions). Document Processing — Merging multiple PDFs, compressing for upload, converting formats. Printing Services — Aadhaar prints, PAN prints, passport photo sheets, ID card printing. Scanning — Converting customer documents to digital PDFs. Utility — QR code generation for businesses, invoice generation for services. Combined with your existing eMitra/CSC portal access, these tools make you a complete one-stop shop for customers.
Do you have a mobile app for service centers?
Not yet — but DocEasy works as a Progressive Web App (PWA). On Android (Chrome) or iOS (Safari), tap the share menu and select "Add to Home Screen". The tool will launch in full-screen mode, appearing as a native app icon on your phone. This gives you mobile access to all tools without downloading from an app store. A dedicated native app is on our roadmap but not currently in development. For now, the PWA approach works well — it's fast, works offline, and requires no updates. Many eMitra and CSC operators use DocEasy on their mobile phones for on-the-go document processing.
How do I handle password-protected PDFs?
Many official PDFs are password-protected: e-Aadhaar PDFs from UIDAI, PAN card PDFs from Protean/NSDL, ITR acknowledgements from Income Tax portal, and bank statements. DocEasy's ID Card Cropper handles password-protected PDFs natively using PDF.js. Common password formats: Aadhaar e-PDF: First 4 letters of name in CAPITALS + birth year (e.g., "DEEP1998"). PAN card: Date of birth in DDMMYYYY (e.g., "15011998"). ITR: PAN number in lowercase + DOB DDMMYYYY (e.g., "abcde1234f15011998"). Bank statements: Varies by bank (often customer ID or DOB). If you don't know the password, ask the customer — they usually have it in the email they received. The tool handles all standard PDF encryption without needing external software.
Do you keep logs of customer data?
No. We don't log filenames, customer names, Aadhaar numbers, or any metadata about your usage. We don't track which tools you use or when. Our analytics only records anonymous page views — never customer content. Since your data never leaves your browser, there's literally nothing for us to log. This is a critical privacy guarantee for service center operators: even we cannot see your customer's Aadhaar or PAN data. You can verify this yourself: open Developer Tools → Network tab, drop a customer's document, and watch for requests. Zero outgoing requests carry customer data — because it never goes anywhere. This makes DocEasy compliant with the strictest interpretation of the Aadhaar Act and DPDP Act 2023 regarding third-party data handling.
