All Categories — Frequently Asked Questions

Everything about DocEasy's tools — categories, privacy, formats, and how to get the most out of them.

What is DocEasy?

DocEasy is a free, browser-based suite of 90+ tools for handling PDFs, images, documents, ID cards, media files, finance, career, business, and everyday utilities. Every tool runs entirely in your browser using modern web technologies like Canvas, WebAssembly, MediaRecorder, and the File API. This means nothing is ever uploaded to any server — your files stay on your device from start to finish. DocEasy is designed for students, professionals, eMitra/CSC operators, teachers, content creators, and anyone who needs reliable document and media tools without installing software, creating an account, or paying a subscription.

Are all DocEasy tools really free?

Yes — every single tool on DocEasy is 100% free, forever. There's no signup, no email, no watermark, no daily limit, no file-size cap, and no premium tier hiding behind a paywall. You can use any tool as many times as you want, on any device, forever. The site is supported by lightweight, non-intrusive display ads on some pages. We don't sell your data, we don't track your files, and we don't ask for your email to unlock features. Every feature is available to every visitor with zero restrictions.

How many categories and tools does DocEasy have?

DocEasy currently organizes its tools into 10 main categories: PDF Tools (10 tools), Image Tools (5 tools), ID & Signature Tools (5 tools), Media Tools (10 tools), Printing Tools (10+ tools), File Converters (4 tools), Utility Tools (6 tools), Career & Resume Tools (15 tools), Finance Calculators (17 tools), and Business Tools for MSMEs (12 tools). That's over 90 individual tools, all running locally in your browser. We're actively adding new tools every month.

Are my files uploaded to any server?

Never. Every DocEasy tool runs entirely client-side in your browser. When you drop a file, it's read into your browser's memory using the FileReader or File APIs. All processing — whether that's merging PDFs, compressing images, cropping ID cards, or recording audio — happens locally on your device. When you click Download, the result is written back to your device. You can verify this yourself: open Developer Tools (F12), go to the Network tab, and process a file. You'll see zero outgoing requests carrying your data. This is a technical impossibility for us to see your files, not just a policy promise.

Do I need to create an account?

No — you never need to create an account, provide an email, or log in. Every tool on DocEasy works completely anonymously. This is by design: we believe privacy-first tools shouldn't require you to surrender personal information just to use them. Open any tool page, use it, and close the tab — there's no trace of your activity anywhere on our end (because we don't log it) or on your device (because nothing is stored beyond the browser's session memory).

Which categories should I use for common tasks?

Here's a quick guide: Merging PDFs or splitting a PDF? Use PDF Tools. Compressing a photo for email or WhatsApp? Use Image Tools (Image Compressor). Resizing a photo for an exam form? Use Image Tools or ID & Signature Tools (Photo Size Resize). Recording your screen for a tutorial? Use Media Tools (Screen Recorder). Printing your Aadhaar card on A4? Use Printing Tools. Converting a Word doc to PDF? Use File Converters. Generating a QR code for your business? Use Utility Tools. Calculating EMI or GST? Use Finance Tools. Building a resume? Use Career Tools.

Do these tools work on mobile phones?

Yes — every DocEasy tool is fully responsive and works on Android phones, iPhones, iPads, and tablets. The interface adapts to narrow screens with touch-friendly controls and larger tap targets. Some tools (like Screen Recorder) have limited mobile support due to OS restrictions, but most tools work perfectly on mobile. For best results with media-heavy tasks like video editing, use a desktop or laptop with 8 GB+ RAM. For quick tasks like image resizing, PDF merging, or signature cropping, mobile works great.

Which browsers are supported?

All modern browsers: Google Chrome 90+, Microsoft Edge 90+, Mozilla Firefox 88+, Safari 14+, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, and all Chromium-based browsers. Chrome and Edge offer the smoothest experience for most tools, especially those using WebAssembly (like the Universal Media Editor) or advanced APIs (like Screen Recorder, Voice Recorder, and Text to Speech). Firefox works well too but may be slightly slower for large files. Safari supports everything but sometimes has subtle differences in PDF rendering and audio recording formats.

Can I use DocEasy tools offline?

Partially. After you load a tool page once, most tools continue working even without an internet connection — because all processing happens locally in your browser. You can switch off Wi-Fi and still resize images, crop PDFs, record voice, or process files. The only exception is tools that load additional WebAssembly modules on first use (like the Universal Media Editor's FFmpeg engine, ~25 MB) — those need one online load, after which they're cached by your browser and work offline for subsequent visits.

Are these tools safe for sensitive documents like Aadhaar and PAN?

Yes — DocEasy is one of the safest places to process sensitive documents like Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, bank statements, and passports. Because nothing is uploaded to any server, your documents never leave your device. This is fundamentally different from cloud-based tools (like SmallPDF, iLovePDF, or Adobe Online) that upload your files to their servers for processing. With DocEasy, you can verify the privacy claim yourself: open Developer Tools, watch the Network tab, and see that zero data is transmitted during processing. For eMitra and CSC operators handling hundreds of customer documents daily, DocEasy is the safest choice.

Can I use DocEasy tools for commercial purposes?

Yes — everything you create with DocEasy is yours to use freely, including for commercial purposes. There are no watermarks, no attribution requirements, and no licensing restrictions on the output files. If you process a client's PDF, resize a product photo for an e-commerce listing, print an ID card for a customer, or record a screen tutorial for a paid course, you own 100% of the result and can monetize it however you want. The only exception is if the input content itself is copyrighted by someone else — DocEasy doesn't grant you rights to material you don't own.

How is DocEasy different from other online tool sites?

Three big differences: (1) Privacy: Most online tool sites upload your files to their servers for processing. DocEasy processes everything locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded, ever. (2) No limits: Competitors often cap file size, daily usage, or features behind a paywall. DocEasy has no such limits — every tool is unlimited and free. (3) No watermarks: Some sites watermark your output and charge to remove it. DocEasy never watermarks anything. The result: a faster, safer, and more honest tool suite that respects both your time and your privacy.

Which category has the most tools?

The Finance Calculators category has the most tools (17), followed by Career & Resume Tools (15), Business Tools for MSMEs (12), Media Tools (10), PDF Tools (10), Printing Tools (10+), and then ID & Signature, Image Tools, and Utilities. The Printing Tools category is designed for eMitra and CSC operators, and includes tools for printing Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, e-Shram cards, Ayushman Bharat cards, passport photo sheets, PVC ID cards, barcodes, and more. If you handle KYC documents regularly, the Printing Tools category will save you hours every week.

Are the tools updated regularly?

Yes — we ship new tools and bug fixes almost every week. Recent additions include the Screen Recorder (with system audio capture), Voice Recorder (with live waveform), Webcam Test, Video Enhancer, Voice Changer, Text to Speech (using browser voices), Meme Generator, Universal Media Editor (12 tools in one), and the entire Printing Tools, Finance, Career, and Business categories. We monitor user feedback closely and prioritize the most-requested features. If you want a specific tool, use the "Request Tool" link in the footer — we read every submission and typically ship popular requests within a few weeks.

How do I find a specific tool?

Two ways: (1) Search bar: Use the search box at the top of this page to filter all tools by keyword (e.g., "merge PDF," "compress image," "record screen," "EMI"). (2) Category jump: Use the quick category pills below the hero to jump straight to a category. On desktop, the header also has a Tools dropdown menu with quick access to all major categories. If you can't find what you need, use the "Request Tool" link in the footer — we may already be building it.

Do you have a mobile app?

Not yet. DocEasy is designed as a Progressive Web App (PWA) — meaning you can add it to your home screen and it will work like a native app. On Chrome (Android) or Safari (iOS), tap the share menu and select "Add to Home Screen." The tool will launch in full-screen mode without browser chrome. A dedicated native app (Android/iOS) is on our roadmap but not currently in development. For now, the PWA approach works well and requires no app store download or updates.

What file sizes can DocEasy handle?

It depends on the tool and your device's RAM. General guidelines: lightweight tools (image resize, PDF merge, QR generator) handle files up to 100 MB easily. Medium tools (image compression, PDF compression, ID card cropping) handle 200–500 MB on modern devices. Heavy tools (video editing, screen recording, audio extraction using FFmpeg WebAssembly) handle 500 MB–1 GB on 8–16 GB RAM devices. If a file crashes your browser, try closing other tabs, using a smaller file, or switching to Chrome or Edge (which handle WebAssembly memory best).

Can I process multiple files at once?

Some tools support batch processing, others are one-file-at-a-time. Batch-supporting tools include: Image Compressor, Image Converter, and Video Converter (in the Universal Media Editor). One-file tools: PDF Merge (takes multiple, outputs one), ID Card Cropper, Screen Recorder, Voice Recorder, and most Printing Tools. If you need heavy batch processing (20+ files), we recommend FFmpeg on desktop for video/audio or ImageMagick for images — DocEasy is optimized for one-off, quick tasks rather than industrial-scale batch work.

Do you have a Hindi or regional language version?

Currently DocEasy is primarily in English, but many tools work seamlessly with Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and other Indian language inputs (especially PDF tools, ID card cropping, and signature resizing). We're working on Hindi UI translation and hope to launch it soon. For now, the interface is intuitive enough that non-English speakers can use all tools without difficulty, especially the Printing Tools category which is designed for Indian users.

Where can I report a bug or request a feature?

Use the links in the footer: "Report Error" for bugs, "Request Tool" for new tool suggestions. When reporting a bug, please include: your browser version (e.g., Chrome 120 on Windows 11), a one-line description of what happened, and a screenshot or screen recording if possible. We read every submission and typically fix bugs within a few days. For feature requests, describe the exact use case — for example, "I need to add name and DOB below a passport photo for exam forms" — that helps us prioritize effectively.

Is there a Pro or Premium version?

No. There is no Pro version, no Premium plan, and no paid tier — and there never will be. DocEasy is committed to being free forever. Every tool, every feature, every future update is available to every visitor at no cost. We're supported entirely by lightweight display ads. We believe privacy-first tools should be accessible to everyone, regardless of income — especially in India, where students, eMitra operators, and small business owners depend on these tools daily. If you'd like to support us, simply sharing the site with friends or leaving a positive review helps more than you might think.

Can I embed DocEasy tools on my own website?

Not currently — our tools are designed to run standalone on doceasy.org. However, you can freely link to any tool or category from your website, blog, or app. Deep links to specific tools (e.g., /tools/pdf-merge.html) work perfectly. If you want to embed a tool as an iframe, the layout may not adapt well because our tools are optimized for full-page use. We may offer embeddable widgets in the future — request it via the "Request Tool" link if it matters to you.

Do you offer an API for developers?

Not currently. All DocEasy tools are designed for human use through the web interface, not for programmatic access. If you need to process documents or media programmatically, we recommend: PDFs: PDFtk, Ghostscript, or Python's PyPDF2 library. Images: ImageMagick, Sharp (Node.js), or Python's Pillow. Video/Audio: FFmpeg (command-line). ID card cropping: OpenCV or Pillow in Python. These open-source tools are more powerful than our browser-based tools for programmatic use. DocEasy is built for humans who want privacy-first, no-install tools.
